On May 17-18, 2018 the meeting of the BRICS Working group on energy saving and energy efficiency was held in Cape town, South Africa. Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Anton Inyutsyn headed the Russian delegation. During the meeting, representatives of the BRICS countries discussed the development of national policy in the field of energy efficiency, the issues of creating a Platform for BRICS energy research, as well as possible fields of the first scientific studies.

The Working group highlighted in the protocol several national initiatives to raise public awareness about the role of energy efficiency and energy saving, especially among the youth. These initiatives included BRICS Youth Energy Association, based on the results of the First Youth summit of the BRICS in 2015, and the international energy saving Festival #TogetherBrighter in Russia.

BRICS Youth Energy Association is actively involved in promoting energy efficiency and energy saving among the youth in BRICS countries. With the support of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation the Association takes part in the international forums “Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving” (ENES) and “Russian energy week”.

The support of BRICS YEA within the Working group indicates a significant relevance of the activities carried out by the Association to promote energy efficiency and energy saving among BRICS youth.
