On November 11, 2019, the fourth Meeting of BRICS Ministers of Energy was held in Brasilia. Deputy Minister of energy of the Russian Federation Anton Inyutsyn headed the Russian delegation.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Mines and Energy of Brazil Bento Albuquerque, Head of the State Energy Administration of China Zhang Jianhua, Minister of Energy, New and Renewable Energy Raj Kumar Singh, Special adviser to the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy of the Republic of South Africa Sello Helepi.

The main outcome of the meeting was the adoption of the Rules of work of the BRICS Energy Research Platform.

“The purpose of creating the platform is to get a consolidated own view of the BRICS countries on the development of energy markets. Today we refer to the assessments of various institutions, international organizations and banks. The BRICS countries should have their own opinion, on which we can rely when making political and economic decisions, ” Anton Inyutsyn said during the meeting.

The Deputy Minister stressed that the key task for the BRICS Summit in 2020 is to conduct two or three studies, so that they are verified and supported by all countries within the framework of the Summit.

“As topics for joint research, Russia proposed to conduct research in the field of gas engine fuel, the development of the energy sector in the BRICS countries, as well as in the field of advanced technologies,” he added.

During the discussions, the heads of BRICS energy delegations also highlighted the role of natural gas and confirmed their readiness to expand its use within the countries, as well as cooperation in the gas sector, including in the transport sector.
