8th BRICS Youth Energy Summit to Be Held in Virtual Format on August 17, 2026
As part of India’s BRICS Chairship in 2026, the 8th BRICS Youth Energy Summit will take place on August 17, 2026. The event will be held in a virtual format and will serve as a key platform for discussing the role of youth in shaping the future of global energy. The Summit is organized by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of India with the support of the BRICS Youth Energy Agency. The event continues the series of high-level meetings under the BRICS Energy Track, culminating in the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting held on June 25–26, 2026 in Gurugram, India.
Key Themes and Objectives
The Youth Energy Summit will build directly on the priorities approved at the Ministers’ Meeting. The Ministers endorsed the Summit, recognizing the important role of research activities and youth engagement in shaping future energy systems. The main discussion topics will correspond to the three strategic directions of India’s Chairship Energy Agenda:
- Energy Security and Sustainability: sustainable energy systems, diversification of sources, stability of supply chains, grid modernization and energy storage systems.
- Energy Access and Equity: universal energy access, clean cooking, affordable financing, capacity building and support for developing economies.
- Technology and Innovation: smart grids, hydrogen, digitalization, artificial intelligence, biofuels, carbon capture and energy efficiency.
These directions are fully aligned with the overall theme of the BRICS Energy Track in 2026 – “सर्वेषां ऊर्जम्” (“Energy for All”) , which reflects the shared commitment of member countries to ensuring universal energy access.
Format and Programme
The Summit will be held over the course of one day in an online format, ensuring broad participation of young leaders, experts and policymakers from all 11 BRICS countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Participation in the Summit will be granted to official delegates from BRICS countries nominated through the work of the BRICS Committee of Senior Energy Officials. Members of the BRICS YEA community will be given the opportunity to participate in the Summit via a closed link sent by email.
