The Republic of South Africa welcomes the V BRICS Youth Energy Summit on 3-4 August 2023 in the Gauteng Province, Johannesburg (Sandton) which is a part of the South African BRICS 2023 Chairship Plan. The Summit is organized by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy of the Government of the Republic of South Africa (DMRE) together with the BRICS Youth Energy Agency (BRICS YEA). The Summit is taking place in hybrid mode.
The event will bring together 200 young entrepreneurs, researchers, and activists to discuss and shape the future of energy for Africa and the BRICS countries. The youth vision will be reflected in a declaration and presented at the 8th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting. The Summit will feature high-level panel discussions with South African energy leaders, thematic workshop sessions, technical site visits, and networking cafes. Among the key themes of the Summit, there are energy access and energy poverty, youth and girls in STEM, international cooperation to achieve SDG7, critical minerals for the energy transition, and using energy as a powerful enabler for circular economy and resilient food systems.
Especially for the delegates of the Summit, the organizers are arranging a visit to the energy site in the Johannesburg’s neighborhood. The Summit will also include the presentation of the first results of the BRICS Youth Energy Outlook 2023 on Energy Access and the presentation of the Joint Youth Statement.
