On October 18, 2023, BRICS Youth Energy Agency is organizing the first Regional Youth Forum on SDG7 (RYF on SDG7) as the official youth event of the Third Asian and Pacific Energy Forum and Asia Pacific Energy Week held from October 16 to 20 in Bangkok. The RYF on SDG7 is organized in partnership with Youth for Energy – South East Asia (Y4E-SEA). The selected youth delegates are supported by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) and the Russian Federation.
The RYF on SDG7 will be the starting point for the official youth engagement track on energy at UN ESCAP. It will gather more than 30 young energy experts from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss some of the key challenges on the way to achieve SDG7. The delegates will also discuss the establishment and work modalities of the Asia Pacific Youth Expert Committee on Energy as a mechanism of systemic and meaningful engagement enabling young energy experts to contribute to the United Nations work on achieving SDG7 by 2030 in the region.
The RYF on SDG7 will consist of three major sessions featuring a knowledge-sharing discussion on SDG7 challenges in the Asia-Pacific region, a design session on the establishment and work modalities of the ESCAP Young Expert Group on Energy, and a presentation pitch with the United Nations Member States’ policymakers along with the UN regional commissions.
The 2023 Regional Youth Forum on SDG7 will also provide delegates with a unique opportunity to attend thematic meetings of the Asia Pacific Energy Week and participate in expert discussions to mainstream youth perspective on SDG7. The outcomes of the Forum will be integrated in the final Ministerial Declaration and will pave the way for a new lasting partnership between the United Nations and young energy experts in Asia and the Pacific.
