Chairman of the BRICS Youth Energy Agency Alexander Kormishin took part in the fifth BRICS Youth Summit, which was held on October 17-20, 2019 in the capital of Brazil, Brasilia. The Summit is an official event of the program of Brazil’s Presidency in the BRICS Union in 2019.

The fifth BRICS Youth Summit was organized by the National Youth Secretariat of The Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights attached to the Presidency of Brazil.

The Summit was attended by delegations of the Russian Federation, the Republic of India, the Federal Republic of Brazil and the Republic of South Africa. The Russian delegation was headed by the head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs Alexander Bugaev.

The participants of the summit were welcomed by the Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights of Brazil Damares Alves and the National Secretary of youth of Brazil Jayana Nicaretta da Silva.

The agenda proposed by the Brazilian side was related to the issues of youth entrepreneurship and innovative technological development as the basis of economic growth. The panel discussions also discussed such topics as the involvement of young people in the labor market through education, the development of socio-emotional skills as a tool of “soft power”, the improvement of relations between the BRICS countries through the participation of young people.

On the sidelines of the summit, according to a special agreement of the BRICS YEA and the national youth Secretariat of Brazil, a road show of the BRICS Youth Energy Agency in this country was held. The activities of the BRICS YEA were presented the Domares Alves, heads of delegations and summit participants in the framework of the panel discussion “Young people as a bridge for improving relations between the BRICS countries”.

As part of the Roadshow, Alexander Kormishin and representatives of the Ministry of energy and subsoil use of Brazil met, within which the head of the BRICS YEA spoke about the main projects of the Agency aimed at the development of youth cooperation in the field of energy, i.e. the development of a digital platform for young scientists and energy professionals, the youth forecast of global energy development and the annual Summit ofthe BRICS YEA within the framework of the International forum “Russian Energy wWek”.

Carlos Pire, Director of the Department of energy development, expressed interest in the Agency’s projects, in particular the activities of forecasting and holding the international festival #TogetherBrighter. Lorena Silva, Advisor To the Department of energy planning, shared her opinion that cooperation with the BRICS YEA could be the first step in the Ministry’s work with young people, which is in the interests of national policy.

An agreement was reached on the development of cooperation formats between the Ministry and the BRICS IEA through the national youth Secretariat of Brazil. The signing of a bilateral Memorandum between the Ministry and the national youth Secretariat may be a possible basis for the beginning of cooperation, said Fabian Menezes, adviser to the Minister for international Affairs.

A working meeting between Alexander Kormishin and Brazilian national youth Secretary Jayana Nicaretta da Silva took place following the results of the BRICS YEA Summit and the Agency’s Roadshow. The meeting was also attended by the Chief adviser on international Affairs of The national Secretary of youth Andre Costa Perez.

An agreement on the establishment of a National representation (eng. National Representative Office) of BRICS YEA in Brazil between the BRICS YEA and the National Youth Secretariat of Brazil was reached to sign.

The National Youth Secretariat of Brazil highly appreciated the activities of the BRICS YEA in the space of the association countries. Alexander Kormishin told Ms. National Secretary that, following the implementation of the project of the BRICS Youth forecast of global energy development, the team from the University of Sao Paulo was awarded the first place. The original copy of the forecast was presented to Mrs. National Secretary as a gift.

Ms. Nicaretta da Silva also accepted the invitation to visit Moscow during the 3rd BRICS YEA Summit within the framework of the Youth day #TogetherBrighter.

Also, with the support of the BRICS YEA community in Brasilia, a meeting with the leadership of the Center for strategic research and management-Science, technology and innovation (CGEE), which is one of the leading research organizations in Brazil in the field of long-term planning, energy research and innovation, was held . The head of the BRICS YEA has met Advisor to the Director of technology Marcelo Khaled Poppo. They released an exchange of views on issues of forecasting and research activities.

The BRICS Youth Energy Agency expresses its gratitude to the Federal Agency for youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh) for long-term cooperation in the interests of BRICS and the inclusion of the head of the BRICS YEA in the Russian delegation.

The BRICS Youth Energy Agency Roadshow is held in the “five” countries in order to expand opportunities for BRICS youth cooperation in the field of energy and the development of national representations of the Agency and partnerships with universities with the support of the governments of the community countries.
