On August 14-16, 2019, the Road show of the BRICS Youth Energy Agency was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The event was organized by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) of the Republic of South Africa with support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh).

BRICS Youth Energy Agency was presented by the Chairman Mr. Alexander Kormishin, Director of Partnerships Mr. Igor Derevtsov, Head of International Projects of the Global Energy Association Ms. Sofia Morgan with support of the Attaché of the Russian Embassy in South Africa Ms. Daria Shcherbakova.

Road shows of the BRICS Youth Energy Agency are held in the five countries in order to develop BRICS youth energy cooperation and to set up the Agency’s national representative offices (NRO) and partnerships under BRICS governments’ guidance and support.

Delegation of the BRICS YEA was welcomed by the Executive Chairman of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) of the Republic of South Africa H.E. S. Mtsweni. He endorsed the initiative to establish the National Representative Office of the BRICS YEA in the Republic of South Africa which will be coordinated by the NYDA and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy of the Government of the Republic of South Africa.

A. Kormishin expressed gratitude to the NYDA for a warm reception and presented the key projects of the BRICS YEA, including BRICS Youth Energy Outlook 2019, BRICS YEA Summit as part of the “Russian Energy Week” International Forum Youth Day #TogetherBrighter and plans for development of the BRICS YEA Network.

In his speech, A. Kormishin invited the South African Youth to join the International Energy Efficiency Festival #TogetherBrighter. NYDA and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy of the Government of South Africa supported the idea of holding the festival in the country.

Activities of the Festival #TogetherBrighter found special support among the young people who took part in the programme of the Road show. The most active young participants of the discussion – students of one of the Johannesburg’s schools  – were given the #TogetherBrighter t-shirts and other gifts from partners.

Young scientists and students from a number of universities took an active part in the Road show, including the University of Pretoria, the University of South Africa, Stellenbosch University, the University of Johannesburg and the MAAT Institute.


In the course of the visit of the BRICS Youth Energy Agency’s Delegation to South Africa, the parties agreed to sign a tripartite Memorandum between the NYDA, Department of Minerals and Energy of the Government of the Republic of South Africa and the BRICS YEA on BRICS youth energy cooperation and research development in the Republic of South Africa. The parties also agreed to establish the National Representative Office of the BRICS YEA in the Republic of South Africa.
