On June 26, 2020, the First Voluntary National Review of the Russian Federation’s achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Agenda 2030) was published on the UN official media.

The review reflects the country’s achievements in economic, social and environmental areas in all seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals. Targets were set by all UN member states in 2015, which agreed to submit voluntary reviews in the first five years. SDG concept implies meeting the current needs of people without harming future generations and the ecosystem of the planet.

The section enlightened by SDG 7 (Ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all), in the context of target 7.a (Enhancing international cooperation to facilitate access to research and technology in the field of clean energy) notes activities of the BRICS Youth Energy Agency as one of the two institutions for the development of the energy agenda of the BRICS countries.

The Russian survey was prepared by the Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Russian Statistics Agency (Rosstat) and other departments, organizations and companies. The work was carried out within thematic groups, one for each SDG. More than 200 experts were involved in the work.
