Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak took part in a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and other BRICS leaders with members of the BRICS Business Council and the leadership of the New development Bank.

Russian President Vladimir Putin outlined the main tasks of the Russian presidency of the BRICS in 2020 and invited the leaders of the associated states to the next summit of the “five” in Russia.

Russia stands for strengthening the energy component of the BRICS dialogue in the face of fundamental changes in the world energy sector, said Alexander Novak after the meeting.

“Objective information about key trends in the energy sector is an important element of strategic planning for the activities of government agencies and companies of the BRICS countries” said the Minister.

Alexander Novak added that holding of meetings of BRICS Ministers of Energy on a regular basis, as well as the established mechanism — the Committee of Senior officials on energy — is an important component of the dialogue.

“On the eve of the BRICS Summit on November 11, the 4th meeting of BRICS Ministers of Energy was held, where we’ve discussed the deployment of the BRICS Energy Research Platform, market access, the application of tariffs, energy transfer, energy efficiency and energy security,” the Head of the Russian Ministry of Energy said.

According to Alexander Novak, the creation of this Platform is an important practical result. The main objective of this platform will be the implementation of independent research and analytical activities on energy development in the interests of the BRICS countries. Special emphasis in the activities of the platform is planned to be placed on the development of cooperation in the field of advanced technologies.

“The development of the youth energy track is also important. In October 2019, the 2nd BRICS Youth Energy Summit was held on the sidelines of the Russian Energy Week. Such events provoke the development of research potential among the representatives of the younger generation interested in energy issues” ” said the Minister.
